The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium believes that the type and quality of benefits offered to the employees is an integral part of job satisfaction representing the strong commitment that the organization is willing to make for a better work environment.
A comprehensive benefit package available to all full-time employees includes health care coverage, dental, vision, Employee Assistance Program, life insurance, paid vacations, and holidays.
Work Hours
The Zoo is a 7-day-a-week operation, closed only on Christmas, New Years and Thanksgiving Day where staffing is minimal. Flextime and flexible scheduling are available for non-union employees.
Union employee schedules are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Generally there are two shifts, daylight and midnight. Most employees are scheduled for the day shift.
Holidays
Union employees receive 11 paid holidays. Non-union has one additional day.
Zoo Passes
Full-time and year round part-time employees receive 10 free guest passes each year.
Rental
Full-time and part-time year round employees who have at least three years tenure can utilize rental space at no-charge.
Zoo Camp
Discounted pricing for the participation of employees children.
Learning & Development
The PZA promotes and supports employee development on multiple levels including monetary assistance and when appropriate, time off.
Behind the Scenes
Tours are available for full-time employee guests when possible.
