The Adopt an Animal program lets you play an important role in promoting the comfort and growth of your favorite Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium residents. Your gift helps provide for the care, feeding, and enrichment of Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium animals while supporting the Zoo’s commitment to wildlife conservation, both locally and around the world. There are many benefits to adopting an animal (click here to see a complete list of the benefits). Your name will be posted on the Adopt an Animal board on Zoo grounds (located next to the Safari Gift shop, and updated each spring). You will also receive a personalized adoption certificate, a magnet, an activity page, a photo fact sheet when adopting Featured Creatures, and a subscription to the Zoo Insider newsletter.
All adoptions are valid for a one-year period and may be renewed annually. All adopted animals may have multiple adoptive parents. No ownership rights are conferred by adopting an animal. All adopted animals remain in the care and custody of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, but we hope you will visit often! You can adopt an animal by clicking the button below, or downloading, completing, and sending in the mail-in adoption application. Please allow 2-3 weeks for your adoption package to arrive.
Coral only exists in about two percent of the world’s aquatic habitats, but it is home to over 25 percent of all aquatic life. Alarmingly, it is disappearing very quickly and some scientists predict that all coral could be gone in as soon as 50 years. The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is actively involved in coral conservation efforts both at the Zoo and around the world. Every year, aquarists perform outreach projects. Some coral has been brought back to the Zoo to be studied, and the veterinary and aquarist teams have even found cures for certain ailments for coral. Please consider a donation to support the Zoo’s efforts to conserve this vitally important animal.
Giving in honor or in memory of a loved one is a lasting way to show you care. When you make an honorary or memorial donation, we will send the individual being recognized or their family an acknowledgement of your gift, as well as a thank-you letter to you to show our appreciation of your generosity.
Under the auspices of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, the International Conservation Center, or ICC for short, is North America’s premier conservation, research, education, and training facility. The ICC specializes in the care and breeding of African elephants. It is the only center of its kind affiliated with an AZA-accredited institution in the United States.
Contributions to the ICC help to provide care for the animals who live there, support for research, and assistance in maintaining and expanding the center’s facilities.
You can contribute to the preservation of endangered and threatened wild animals while outfitting your car with Pennsylvania's newest and most attractive license plate by purchasing a Save Wild Animals license plate. Click here for more information or to sign up for a plate today.
The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium has partnered with aquariums in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia to rescue, rehabilitate, and release sick, injured, or otherwise imperiled sea turtles. Our Zoo takes in turtles who need long-term rehabilitation which frees up space at the coastal institutions so that they can treat turtles who need short-term rehabilitation. Contributions to the Sea Turtle Second Chance Fund allow more turtles to be helped and returned to their home in the ocean, giving them a second chance.
Please consider Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium Head Start education programs, number #223611, for your United Way Contribution. Your gift supports Zoo educational programs that provide low-income, at-risk children with unique hands-on science education. The children enjoy Zoo visits and animal encounters that teach them life sciences, raise conservation awareness, and enhance school readiness.
